ARMENTEL ACCUSED OF ALLEGED POCKETING 60 MILLION USD
Support A1+!“Transaction with Armentel Company is illegal, as the latter has made an extra profit of $ 60 million at Armenia’s state budget expense”, Vazgen Manukyan, the head of the interim parliamentary commission on communication, said Tuesday at the Armenian National Assembly session.
In his words, Armenia is the only country, where mobile phones are extremely hard to obtain despite they are in high demand in the republic. The commission has intensively scrutinised the company activity and came to conclusion that Armentel stalled information technologies’ development and it is necessary to strip it from its monopoly on communication in Armenia.
Once former Prime Ministers Armen Darbinyan and then Vazgen Sarkisyan submitted proposals on Telecommunication Law revision for the National Assembly consideration. But both Prime Ministers have failed in their effort to pass the proposal.
Vazgen Manukyan put forward the same motion at today’s parliamentary session saying now the republic communication found itself in desperate situation.
The names of those responsible for signing that notorious contract were read on Manukyan’s request. The then Prime Minister Robert Kocharyan headed the list.
