SESSION OF THE ECOLOGY' AND AGRICULTURE' COMMISSION OF PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY OF EUROPEAN COUNCIL

On June the 13-rd in the Armenian Parliament a session of Ecology' and Agriculture' Commission of Parliamentary Assembly of European Council held.

Jan Brian, the member of Ecology' and Agriculture' Commission of Parliamentary Assembly of EC said the session is held in Armenia in order to get to know the water resources of the country and the way they are managed .

The vice-minister of Ecology Artashes Ziroyan dwelt on ecological state of Sevan' basin, drop of level of the lake and its dangerous ecological and biological consequences .

Sebastien Dubous, the expert of European Union referred to the European and international collaboration. He stated the issues on water resources keeping and using with a special purpose were conditioned by the co-operation between regional countries. He thinks that's possible only if the regional conflicts are solved .

Roy Reeve, the Yerevan's Office' representative of OSCE said Armenia was willing to co-operate, whereas Azerbaijan said solution of the problem depended on Karabagh conflict .

Gayane Minasyan, the representative of World Bank spoke about aid by World Bank to the solution to the problem of Sevan. It is not enough for solving the problem totally but if collaboration with the Government of Armenia and organizations interested continues, results may be better than expected.

Varazdat Avoyan, the head of Communities' Development Project of State Commitee of Water Economy of Armenian Government represented the problems of water system of Yerevan. He said the legislative field on water policy was being regulated and investments of $ 150.000.000 would be made in coming 10 years for improvement of water supply .

On June the 14-th the Commission on Ecology and Agriculture will continue working.
