"Professor's Building" in danger
So-called "Professor's Building" at Abovyan 32 is in danger. Residents have to fight again that the residential building does not become a business center. Without the consent of the residents, the owner of one of the first floors of the building Susanna Galstyan has started construction to open a new entrance from the front of the building and then use the apartment for business purposes. There is a permission from the Yerevan Municipality for construction, and the Committee for the Protection of Monuments is not against it either. According to N 1616-N decision of Government of the Republic of Armenia, the building is included in the state list of immovable monuments of history and culture. Sedrak Arakelyan, a resident of the building, says: "I do not understand the motivation of the Yerevan Municipality. What is the goal which will allow them to demolish the walls of the building from 1934." Construction contractors, however, do not have the permission of the Territorial Governing Body, because of which only the police suspends the construction by the residents' alert. Immediately after receiving the construction project, the residents applied to the court, as they were sure that the permit was received in violation of the law.
