A large number of training programs are available to those who master the German language, Mr. Bernhard Matthias Kiesler, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Armenia, said on Sept. 27. "We think that German has been and remains one of the most attractive languages in the world. Perhaps, few know that people in Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, some parts of Belgium, Denmark and France speak German. German is the most widely used mother tongue in Europe after Russian. Seven schools in Yerevan offer German-language classes. Naturally, we cannot support all of them but at the moment we help one school so that its pupils can have an opportunity to study in Germany in the future,” the ambassador said during the “Three countries, one language” conference in Yerevan. By the end of the year, the Goethe-Institut will have a branch opened in Yerevan. There has been one Goethe-Institut in the South Caucasus so far, which is located in Tbilisi. Within the framework of the “German Week in Armenia,” the embassies of Germany, Switzerland and Austrian in collaboration with German-speaking institutions of Armenia have organized a range of events to introduce the Armenian public of the German language.
