Artsakh Republic President to be elected in a few days by the NA
Statement of the President of the Artsakh Republic National Assemby In accordance with Article 168 (1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Artsakh, the National Assembly shall, upon recommendations of factions, no sooner than 50 and no later than 40 days prior to the expiry of the term of office of the incumbent President of the Republic, elect the President of the Republic, who shall hold the office until the expiry of the powers of the incumbent National Assembly. In conformity with Article 149 (2) of the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh, the factions shall nominate candidates for the post of the President of the Republic, no sooner than 64 and no later than 57 days prior to the expiry of the term of office of the incumbent President of the Republic. From 5 to 12 July this year, in accordance with the prescribed procedure and within the specified terms, two candidates were nominated for the post of the President of the Republic: Edward Aghabekyan (from the “Movement-88” faction) Bako Sahakyan (from the factions "Motherland", "Dashnaktsutyun" and "Democracy"). Considering the terms defined by the Constitution for the election of the President of the Republic and the requirements of Article 149 (3),(4) of the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly, the election of the President of the Republic by the National Assembly will take place at a special sitting of the Parliament, which, by virtue of law, will be convened on July 19, 2017 at 11⁰⁰.
