The man, who is fishing in Vachagan river of Kapan, won’t do the same in Voghji river of the city, “The river is full of concentrates. It causes radiation.” Nothing is known about examination of consequences of Copper and molybdenum combine in Zangezur on the residents of Syunik region during the recent years. The experiment failed. Yet, the complaints of the people- no. Combine continues operating without clarifying the consequences on people’s health. Hrayr Khachatryan, representative of “Law for the rule of law” NGO, has no doubts that there is a need for examination. Ararat Harutyunyan, child doctor of Kapan medical center, has no information about child diseases caused by the pollution of environment, “The issue of mine industry has become a topic for manipulations. There have always been mines in Kapan, Kajaran and Meghri.” The number of children's oncological diseases has increased around the world. The child doctor will not link it to mines. But he cannot say as well that mines have good influence on the environment, “You can see many talented children in Kapan, Kajaran and Meghri and we will not say that it is thanks to some radioactive effect, won’t we?” Environmentalist Davit Hakobyan doesn’t consider the doctor’s irony appropriate. The mines will continue to be exploited and the consequences will be evident. The statistics speak for themselves, “Recently I have looked through statistics that Armenia is on the second place with the cancer rates. Maybe that is the worst consequence of mine industry.” Kapan is surrounded by tailing dams and the nature around them is fed by heavy metals and other harmful substances. Future mother Elya Arzumanyan says that it is very dangerous to give a birth to a child in Kapan; the environment is polluted, “Both water, air and food. But there is no other option. Either the residents of Kapan should be transferred to another place, where the environment is clean, or the mine industry must be stopped, which is impossible.” The future mother also doesn’t share the doctor’s irony. But she is forgiving, all the people make mistakes. And it can be proved by the Jehovah’s witnesses, whom you can meet in different streets of Kapan and who think that the topic of consequences of the mine industry isn’t an appropriate topic for them.
