TRIAL ON MUSHEG SAGHATELYAN CASE CONTINUES

Social

Defendant Musheg Saghatelyan, the former Chief of Prisons' Administrative Department said today in court that Armenian President Robert Kocharyan had placed Interior Minister Haik Harutyunyan in a dilemma saying either latter will remove Saghatelyan from position or he will be debarred from dealing with October 27 terrorist action case. Defendant said he has been told about this personally by Haik Harutyunyan. Saghatelyan alleged expressed understanding of the situation and said he’ll never take offence at Harutyunyan for being dismissed by him.

”From that very moment they began to persecute me. They held monitoring throughout the department but, failing to find abuses, they started to scrutinize the activity for past years”, he said. From “Hayots Ashkharh” daily newspaper Saghatelyan learned that he has been accused of using false high-education-degree diploma. And what for the indictment, connected with October 27 terrorist action, defendant states it was grounded only on the allegation of just a single person, who is an official of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Harutyun Grigoryan.

Prosecutor interrupted Saghatelyan’s speech, saying it would be better if the defendant gives testimonies instead of analyzing pieces of evidence.

Hearing is to continue tomorrow.
