Lifer announces hunger strike in Nubarashen prison

Lifer Harutyun Khachatryan has started a hunger strike at the Nubarashen penitentiary, Gor Ghlechyan, a spokesman for the Penitentiary Department at the Justice Ministry, told A1+.  He has demanded the prison administration to move inmates to other cells.

Earlier in July, Harutyun Khachatryan cut his veins and demanded that prison officials give him more drugs than had been prescribed to him.

Khachatryan’s relatives say physicians have got the lifer on a drip which contradicts the principles of the hunger strike.

Gor Ghelchyan told us that a dropper is tied to an inmate only in extreme cases.

At present, Harutyun Khachatryan is in a separate cell under the supervision of doctors.
