HEATED DISCUSSION OVER ARNO BABAJANYAN'S MONUMENT
Support A1+!Today lot of the monument to Arno Babajanyan will at last become clear. The Arts Council discusses 2 versions in the closed session – either the monument will remain at the same place after some changes are made or will be removed.
Recently a heated discussion regarding the monument has been held in Yerevan’s Municipality. Some of the art critics invited to discussion demanded to dismantle the monument and the other part expressed a positive attitude to it.
Mayor Robert Nazaryan was made to set up an arts council which would solve the problem. Chairs of 5 creative unions, painters, architects and art critics are inscribed in the Council.
A group of art critics who are worried about the monument didn’t take part in discussion and waited for the session decision around the monument. Yerevan’s Chief Architect Narek Sargsyan was among them. He said: “If they make a decision on displacement I’ll do my utmost to oppose to it” .
He also expressed objection to the obligatory order for conducting a tender on monument shift saying there’s no order like that.
