IS THERE ELECTRIC POWER CRISIS?

Economy

During the recent days people of Yerevan are again disturbed. Gradually the situation when rather big territories of Yerevan were being deprived of electricity supply becomes as usual again.

No statement over passing to fan-shaped disconnection of electricity supply was made. Ministry of Energy isn’t even aware for what reasons electricity in Yerevan is obligatory cut off every day . But Ministry categorically denies the assertions that crisis occurred. There can be no crisis at the moment because it is spring now.

Energy Ministry explains: Hydroelectric Power Stations begin working more intensively connected with spring flood. Ministry is informed about electricity cessation only in 60 % of Yerevan territory yesterday.

Under the information they have, long-term electricity tripping in many communes of Yerevan is explained by the following. the protection device for energy system of Armenia functioned because of strong oscillations of parameters of electricity supply in Iran-Armenia direction. As a result, Nuclear Power Station along with other territories was as well deprived of electricity to provide extra security. Ministry assures no problem over it arose.

”Yerevan’s Electricity Network” Company could comment on the periodical electricity disconnection. Their explanations were surprising. It turns out the bad weather is mostly to blame for cessation of electricity supply - in the wet wires because of rains short circuits happen. The only hope of Armenian people is normal and warm weather.

Since Yerevan residents are advised to pin their hopes on nice weather, one can suppose the Russian side, owning PDNs, is not going to take any measures to settle the situation.

”Yerevan’s Electricity Network” confirmed that electricity cessation because of bad weather caused financial damages.

Rumours over energy crisis were denied there, too. Power engineering specialists even wish to collaborate with Turkey and Azerbaijan, besides Georgia, in allocation of electric power. They say it would have positive influence on the prime cost.
