WILL ARMENIA HAVE A CHEMICAL INDUSTRY OR NOT?

Economy

There is no Department of Chemical Industry in the Armenian Ministry of Trade and Economic Development . In other words a section that was responsible for development or regress of a concrete sphere, was crushed. For the time being, retrogression is more real as even the privatisation process failed to save the chemical factories.

“Nairit” is a perfect example for crisis. Its output is in a great demand in the foreign market. Even demand doesn’t solve the problems of that industrial branch . Recently a proposal over export of production of Alabaster factory has been made to Armenia. The product is qualitative for the foreign market. Armenia was to profit by it. But the transaction didn’t take place. As a result of transportation, Armenian alabaster would cost the clients too dear.

Tigran Davtyan, Armenian Deputy Minister for Trade and Economic Development, says the reason for chemical industry crisis is that the home market is very small for chemical industry of Armenia. The output is to be sold in the foreign markets but there is transportation problem , he says. Because of blockade Armenia now has no profitable way for conveyance.

Tigran Davtyan is sure the problem can be solved someway even if one direction of railway functions well. In other words, Armenia will have and will save the chemical industry if Artsakh problem is solved in time and blockade is done away with .
