ONGOING ECONOMIC DECLINE INSTEAD OF GROWTH

Economy

Social Security State Fund of the Republic of Armenia didn’t pay unemployment benefit to Armenian jobless citizens from June to December 2000.

Labour market is saturated with supply while demand for human resources remains poor. Social Security Ministry being concerned about unregistered occupation worked out new strategy to get a real data on occupation rate from each community of the republic.

As many as 20,750 jobless are registered this year by employment agency. Only third of them has got jobs.

The thing is that the agency hasn’t managed to establish contacts with non-governmental organisations and had to reckon on state funding only.

To prevent social security from falling behind other spheres a number of international programs have been implemented in Armenia.

However, so far, these programs have produced few results. A good deal of work is still outstanding. Many programs related to various areas such as diamond industry, training in computer technology and assistance to the unemployed have failed to be put into reality.
