FROM 700 000 UP TO 1 MILLION CUBE METERS OF WOODS ARE ANNUALLY CUT DOWN IN ARMENIA

Economy

Hundreds of wood hectares dried up in Armenia during the last 5 years because of the overall temperature increase. The studies demonstrate that from 700 000 up to 1 million cube meters of woods are annually cut down in Armenia. As early as 1997, Armenia ratified the international

convention on climate change assuming the responsibility to preserve wood massifs, restrict thermal gas pollution, not to allow man to interfere the climate change.

The Vice-Minister on Environment Artashes Ziroyan assures that Armenia meets the responsibilities assumed. Note that about 40% of 350 000 wood –covered hectares have been cut down over the whole territory of Armenia. They are not likely to be recovered.
