“THE SPINAL COLUMN OF ARMENIA MUST NOT BE ROTTEN”

Politics

“No official of Armenia has right to set false standards appropriate to his interests. The standards for democracy and civic society were set long ago” , the pre-election booklet of Hovhanness Hovhannissyan, Chairman of Parliament Committee for Foreign Relations and candidate in N 45 election district, says.

Tensed struggle is expected in that district. MP Vrej Shahgeldyan, Bottle Factory head Melik Manukyan are the political rivals of Hovhannissyan. Unlike his competitors, Hovhannissyan aims to fight under the “European standards”. “I’m not going to become a MP by shooting, bribing or getting OKs. I want to become a MP by the vote of people, trust, my biography, the way passed, work, services I have rendered to my people and the state” , he says.

A few days ago Vrej Shahgeldyan with a 80-people mob armed with guns burst in the pre-election headquarters for Melik Manukyan and started shooting. As a result of it 5 were injured and taken to hospital.

No criticism was made over what happened. TV was silent about it. State and non-state bodies said nothing. A few newspapers wrote of it.

“The accident is to be evaluated properly. The political figures must assess it politically, the law-enforcement bodies legally” , Mr Hovhannissyan says.

Let’s state that the Republican Party of Armenia patronises the crime author Vrej Shahgeldyan, enjoying congressional immunity. He has got OK of PM.
