ARSHAK SADOYAN RUNNING FOR PRESIDENCY

National-Democrats Union held its conference today.

Many political parties’ leaders such as Stepan Demirchyan, Aram Sargssyan, Vladimir Darbinyan and Vazgen Manoukyan are absent from the event.

NDU chairman Arshak Sadoyan analysed “the damage inflicted to the republic by former criminal regime as well as 1996 elections and 1998 coup”in his hour-long speech. He came to conclusion that some changes in administrative system need be implemented. Interim president, such as he himself, should be elected for that purpose, Sadoyan said. He urged the opposition to unite in order to prevent anticipated irregularities and frauds in elections.

“Republic” party leader Albert Bazeyan informed the conference participants that his party has already embark on creating fraud-prevention groups.

“Progress” party chair Albert Baghdasaryan accused Constitution of being imperfect saying, from the very beginning, it has been created to suit former president Levon Ter-Petrossyan, now it is suitable to current president Robert Kocharyan and will be convenient to any future president. It is necessary to change Constitution and whole administrative system, he said.

All the participants having the common goal of ousting Kocharyan predicted the second round of elections to be for sure. Moreover, in case of fair and just elections, they say, Kocharyan could reckon on reaching the second round.

NDU announced Arshak Sadoyan as presidential candidate.
