Person shooting Hayrikyan identified?

According to our sources, the person who attempted and shot presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan in downtown Yerevan on 31 January has been identified.

Artsvik Baghramyan, a spokesman for the National Security Service, neither denied nor confirmed the information, saying the NSS would issue a statement within an hour.

Unknown assailant shot Paruyr Hayrikyan late on January 31 in Tpagrichner street in Yerevan, wounding him in his right collarbone. The presidential candidate was rushed to Grigor Lusavorish hospital where he underwent surgery. A criminal case was filed under Articles 34 and 305 of the Armenian Criminal Code. The crime is punishable by imprisonment for 12-20 years, or life imprisonment. The National Security Service is in charge of the investigation.
