24-year-old Armenian weight lifter Ara Khachatryan won a bronze medal in the 77 kg weight category in the weightlifting world championship in Dominican Republic.

His overall result was 357 kg which was only 2 kilograms less than the result of Li Hongli from China who took the second place. The gold medal was won by Taner Sagir from Turkey.
