TOURNAMENT IN STEPANAKERT

As known FIDE has announced 2004 as the year of ex world champion Tigran Petrosyan. Some international tournaments all over the world including Armenia are scheduled.

On the initiative of NKR Government and grand master Smbat Lputyan, Head of Yerevan Chess Academy, a 13-class international tournament will take place in Stepanakert. Armenian chess players Gabriel Sargssyan, Karen Asryan, Ashot Anastasyan, Tigran L. Petrosyan and Arman Pashikyan will take part in it.

Bartoland Maneja /Poland/, Yanik Peletie /Switzerland/, Bahaador Jobava /Georgia/, Jahek Mahami /Iran/ and Yevgeni Svelnikov /Latvia/ are invited from abroad.

The tournament will start on March 8.

The 10th world champion Boris Spasski, 67, will be the honored guest of the tournament. In 1966 Tigran Petrosyan won him.
