News from the regions

The Karchaghbyur fish-breeding farm could restart the process of fish breeding by the 70-80% of its previous power. It would significantly contribute to the restoration of ecological balance and the fauna in the Lake Sevan. But at present it is not possible, as as a result of privatization the fish-breeding farms of the Sevan region have gradually weakened and are now unable to restart work. Because of this many of the fish species are on the verge of extinction.

Hrant Mirzoyan, the head of the Karchaghbyur fish-breeding farm which almost does not operate now, claims that the farm is ready to restart work if the RA Government supports them at least a little, be it within the framework of the Natural resources control strategic program.

It is noteworthy that the Karchaghbyur fish-breeding farm is one of the 4 fish-breeding farms of the Gegharqouniq region which was created with the aim of protecting the fish supply of Sevan from extinction. During more than 60 years the farm bred about 10-15 million trout and white-fish annually.
