THE TWO POOREST, SUFFERED AND BORDER REGIONS TO GET BRITISH POUNDS
Support A1+!Two years ago the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland signed an agreement with the Armenian Government expressing their readiness to give a grant of 1 million pounds to each region of our country.
For the last two years the workers of the Local governing Ministry have been investigating the problems of the regions. Armen Keshishyan, head of the local governing program, said today that they have even talked to the poor in the regions to learn their point of view about how to overcome poverty.
The most popular answer, according to Armen Keshishyan, was the following, “Give us the sum and we know what to do with it”. According to David Loqyan, Minister of Agriculture, “the regions have been chosen by the principle of poverty, rate of suffering from the Kharabak war”. The first two regions corresponding to these criteria are Tavoush and Gegharkounik.
Today in the hotel “Armenia-Marriott” the governors of the regions, several ministers and representatives of international organizations were taking part in the discussion of how to spend the sum efficiently. The program will last till 2007 and its fulfillment will be controlled by Hovik Abrahamyan, Minister of Local government and regulating of production sub-structures. He said that for the last two years investigations have been carried out about the most urgent problems in the regions in order to allot the money to the solution of those problems.
The conclusion will be presented to the Government within 10 days, and the resident of the two regions will already feel the difference at the end of the year. The Minister said that this is a very particular program unlike the previous formal ones.
