FLOOD IN SISYAN

Regions

“Water-conveying pipes cracked, water burst them and flooded the city”, Lavrenti Sargssyan, the mayor of Armenia’s Sisyan city, said angrily at a conference held Friday by Urban institute and the U.S. Agency for International Development.

He said the water burst pipes because they are old and dilapidated. The Sisyan mayor wants the water company to repair the pipeline to prevent water leakage that can have heavy consequences inflicting damage to the city and incurring wasted expenses. It should be taken into account that unbearable conditions are created in the city as snow has already fallen in the city, he said.

The conference participants advised him to appeal to court. But the mayor made it clear in an interview with our correspondent he hoped to settle the matter amicably without the court interference. He thinks the things will be put right if water-supplying system is handed over to Sisyan’s municipality. Sargssyan has already submitted the proposal to the government.
