EUROPEAN UNION DOESN’T TAKE US SERIOUSLY

Politics

The EU Regional Envoy Heiki Talvetie met also the opposition politicians. Speaking at a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Miniter Vardan Oskanyan today, he expressed hope that the authorities and the opposition will cooperate to make Electoral Code amendments more effective.

Electoral Code amendments were discussed in Talvetie’s meeting with Armenian National Assembly Speaker Arthur Baghdasaryan. “I am sure the Code is in right hands”, he said.

Speaking on Karabakh conflict and Azerbaijan’s stance Talvetie said Azerbaijan’s new president is in office for only three months: this is too little term to sustain. “Azeri leader has many issues on the agenda. We will wait a bit”, he added.

Commenting on Vilayat Guliev’s statement that OSCE Minsk Group’s Co-chairs are trying to secure their interests in the region, Talvetie said he understands Azerbaijan’s disappointment but find it quite strong critical remark.

In his opinion, relations between Turkey and Armenia entered completely new stage and inspire hope.

The EU official also said Armenia is in range of CE interests just like Georgia and Azerbaijan. He ruled out possibility of separate consideration of the Armenia-CE relations in the future.

This remark was not so pleasant to Vardan Oskanyan. He reacted to that by saying “once this parity inflicted harm to us.

“We was few steps ahead of Azerbaijan regarding democratic institutions but waited it until they reached us and then entered the CE”, he said.
