PROSECUTION DEMANDING PUNISHMENT WITHOUT PROVING SUSPECT'S GUILT

Trial of Murad Bojolyan, who has been charged with spying for Turkey, continues.

“Although the prosecution has no evidence of his guilt, it accuses Bojolyan of treason and demands 11 years imprisonment for him”, prosecutor Aram Amirjanyan said at today’s court session ignoring the fact that under the law prosecution side has no right to suggest any kind of punishment.

In fact, Bojolyan’s preliminary inquiry testimonies were the only evidence the prosecution possesses. The suspect has told preliminary investigators that he has repeatedly met with Turkish secret services’ officers, carried out special tasks and received money.

Prosecution, failing to prove Bojolyan’s guilt, turned hearing to delivering lecture about the threat the espionage poses to the security of the state and the Constitution. However, the lecture contained not a single piece of evidence of what information exactly the suspect has revealed to Turkish intelligence.

Murad Bojolyan’s attorney said that the evidence received at the stage of preliminary investigation is illegal.
