Trial of Zhirayr Sefilyan and others starts in Appeal Court

At the Court of Appeals, the trials of Zhirayr Sefilyan, Gevorg Safaryan, Hrair Topchyan, Sasunik Kirakosyan, Galust Grigoryan and Nerses Poghosyan have started.

At the previous hearing, the defense party filed motives for changing the preventive measure of Gevorg Safaryan, Hrair Topchyan, Sasunik Kirakosyan, Galust Grigoryan and Nerses Poghosyan, but the court postponed their petitions. NA deputy Naira Zohrabyan and NA Vice President Mikael Melkumyan have given personal guarantees for Hrair Topchyan and Galust Grigoryan.

The court held a short consultation and decided to postpone the proceedings. Today, a number of MPs from the Tsarukyan and Yelk factions of the National Assembly signed a statement, according to which Zhirayr Sefilyan will participate in the sessions and will not hamper the course of the case in case of his release. Other advocates also joined the petition to change Zhirayr Sefilyan’s preventive measure. The prosecution did not object.

The session continues.

Shortly afterwards, the court went to the consulting room. Decisions on petitions will be known on June 13.
