As of April 23, at 12.15, at least 50 people were taken to different departments of the RA police. The majority of the detained are students who were on strike and were detained while the protest that was taking place at the Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi. Earlier it was known that 11 universitiesin Yerevan announced strikes. This morning, around eight policemen attacked physician Hayk Hovhannisyan who is also a lecturer at the Medical, and beat him. The doctor was taken to hospital # 1 with cerebral injury and chest pain. According to information received by the hot line, about 40 soldiers joined the demonstrators. There have also been reports that pupils of Yerevan, Noyemberyan, Hrazdan, Echmiadzin and Myasnikyan village of Armavir schools are threatened in order them not participate in anti-government demonstrations. As of April 23, 33 citizens were detained. The number of people detained in the period April 17-23 exceeds 1000. About 500 cars were taken to the penalty square, Human Rights Activists Hotline reports.
