On April 14-19, the European Fencing Championship for young people under 23 will be held in Yerevan for the first time. "31 countries submitted applications for participation in the championship. In individual competitions, 290 sportsmen and athletes will compete, and 60 teams will compete in the teams," head coach of the Armenian Fencing Federation Alik Navasardyan said at a press conference today. Armenia's sportsmen, 18 people, will take part only in two of three kinds. In the team competition only the men's team will perform, however in all three types. "Up to now, our athletes have been preparing for the championship on individual programs, but now they are conducting joint trainings with representatives of several countries that have arrived in Armenia, which will be of great benefit for good preparation and acquisition of international experience," Artashes Madoyan said. Participating in the press conference Eduard Ovikyan, assessing his capabilities in the upcoming championship, said that although the houses helped their walls, however, our athletes are in for a very difficult struggle, since the most promising and strongest young fencers perform in the competitions among 23-year-old sportsmen. The European Fencing Championship for young people under 23 will be held in the sports hall of Yerevan State University. The opening of the competition will take place on April 15, at 17:00, after which the fights of the final stage will be held in two sports.
