Thirty-two medals from the European Championships

Armenian weightlifting team has returned from European Weightlifting Championships held in Durres, Albania on October 15-21, with 32 medals: 18 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals. In the competitions of girls under the age of 20 Arpine Dalalyan (+90 kg) with the result of 228 kg became the champion of Europe, winning gold medals in the jerk and push exercises. Sona Martirosyan (75 kg) became the champion of Europe, she also won gold medals in the jerk and push exercises. Among the young men of the same age group Simon Martirosyan  (+105 kg) with the result of the biathlon 433 kg won the title of European Champion, having won gold medals also in jerk and push exercises, Samvel Gasparyan, (105 kg), with the result of 374 kg and David Hovhannisyan (85 kg) (silver medal in the jerk exercise) with the result of 343 kg became the vice champions of the championship. Samvel Gasparyan won gold medal in the push and bronze medal in the jerk. David Hovhannisyan also won a silver medal in the jerk, and Karen Avagyan won bronze medal in the 85 kg weight class. At the age of 23, Gor Minasyan (+105 kg), Karush Ghukasyan (94 kg), and Andranik Karapetyan (85 kg) won the European Championships with the result of the biathlon 420 kg, 359 kg, 360 kg, accordingly. Gor Minasyan and Karush Ghukasyan have also won gold medals in the jerk and push exercises, Andranik Karapetyan took bronze medal in the jerk and silver medal in the push. Among the young women of the same age category, Tatev Hakobyan (90 kg) won bronze medals in the jerk and push exersices, and with the result of 228 kg in biathlon, became the vice champion. Izabella Yalyan (59 kg) became the bronze medalist in the jerk and biathlon(195 kg), and in the push exercise she received silver medal. Other members of the team Hrayr Hovhannisyan (69 kg) and Georgiy Yeghikyan (77 kg) won the bronze medals accordingly in the jerk and push. To note, Simon Martirosyan and Andranik Karapetyan were recognized as the best athletes of the 20 and 23 age groups respectively, and were awarded with cups, RA Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs reports.
