Voice of America Information technology today is rapidly developing in the world. Armenia is not indifferent to this process where IT is one of the priorities of economic development. The Prime Minister said that during 2008-2016 this sphere had registered more than 20% growth in Armenia, was an important precondition for becoming a regional center in this sphere. A lot of work was being done in Armenia in terms of information technology development, said Liana Korkotyan, Microsoft Armenia Office Director, who introduced the global brand's activities in Armenia. "Our main target are corporate segments and businessman," said Liana Korkotyan. She said that the change of business environment attitude towards information technologies became increasingly noticeable in Armenia. "It is a pleasure that many businesses have started to realize the IT need and do not consider it as just a spending," said Korkotyan. The director of the office said that transition to digitization, a process that is related not only to the IT sphere, but also to many other fields, positively affecting other sectors. One of the main functions of Microsoft is to help entrepreneurs apply modern technology tools that will increase their effectiveness and profitability. "It may seem that there is no digital transformation taking place in Armenia and that it is inferior to many other developed countries, but the truth," mention the Head of the Office of Microsoft. In response to the question as to how the information technologies are balanced in the country, Liana Korkotyan said that, of course, there were problems outside of the capital, but the situation was changing gradually and its striking examples were the registration of this sector development in other cities of Armenia: Vanadzor and Gyumri. "Today this sector is on the same level in Gyumri and Vanadzor as it is in Yerevan. IT institutions have been founded both in Gyumri and Vanadzor," said Korkotyan. As a major company, Microsoft Armenia is actively involved in a number of social sectors, including education, where it closely cooperates with the Ministry of Education and school principals, raising awareness of its activities and issues related to this area. Awareness raising in Armenia is one of the company's major issues, said the Head of the Office of Microsoft. In this regard, the company pays a lot of attention to the use of licensed software, as, people often do not even know what the risk of downloading a non-licensed program is. "People do not realize that they break the law and, when using not licensed software, they put in danger the information they have in their computers," mentioned Korkotyan. At the same time, Liana Korkotyan believed that Armenian specialists in this sphere were not inferior to professionals working in the global brand.
