All those who did not attend famous journalist Vasak Garbinyan’s “Foreign Times” book presentation, on September 28 participated in it. Famous journalists, editors, writers as well as, social-political figures were present. The book is printed in 500 copies and the copies were signed distributed to the audience. “Foreign Times” is also available at bookstores. “Foreign Times” is the author’s first book which consists of two parts – stories and scratches. Vasak Darbinyan mentioned that the stories were written earlier, and the scratches were written on the motives of the folk artwork. “My motivation for writing was, first of all, not having an impact on my life, understanding the impossibility of affecting my life. Our generation is the bearer of two realities, two societies, two lifestyle, and two mutually exclusive values. We were opposed to the Soviet reality at times, but we were destined to live the best of our lives in that reality. Then it collapsed, national awakening and revolt, then the earthquake, independence and war. We had to pass through all of this, treating our newborn independence as our children. We found ourselves in another world. I could not find a more accurate title than “Foreign Times.” According to him, the power that the government he sought was the power of speech, word, thought. “I am sure, or maybe it is a self-estimation, this is a stronger power than controlling people’s lives, subordinating and ordering them, humiliating or awarding, and it is stronger than power. I understand that the preferable power is not tangible or visible, and that it cannot reduce misfortunes, prevent disasters, cure illnesses. Nor is it combined with luxurious, happy, careless life. So, it is not power at all. Its only advantage is that it never loses.”
