On September 20, Eduard Sharmazanov, Deputy Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly (Parliament) received the Armenian Member of the Turkish Parliament Garo Paylan, who arrived in Armenia to take part in Armenia-Diaspora Sixth Forum. Aragats Akhoyan, a former lawmaker of the National Assembly, also attended the meeting. Welcoming the guest in the Armenian Parliament, Eduard Sharmazanov highly assessed Garo Paylan’s activities and his efforts aimed at establishing democracy in Turkey and the civil high position. “We are very proud that we have members in the Turkish Parliament of Armenian origin. I would like especially to appreciate your personal contribution: we follow with pride and attention your activities. The incident that happened with you  once again shows that Turkey has not changed during 100 years. 100 years ago Grigor Zohrab was killed by stone-throwing in the Parliament of Ottoman Turkey, after 100 years they hit you in the Turkish Parliament for your convictions. But, despite that, you have preserved your civil high position,” Eduard Sharmazanov said. He touched upon the relations with the Diaspora and the problems, and highlighted the deepening of the Motherland-Diaspora relations and the steps of Armenia directed to the solution of the Diaspora problems. The sides alsoreferred to the regional problems, the issue of the international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, the Nagorno Karabakh problem settlement, Eduard Sharmazanov said, is the Artsakh manifestation of the Armenian cause. Garo Paylan thanked Eduard Sharmazanov for receiving him in the Armenian Parliament, spoke about the policy of Turkey and its concerning revelations, making parallels between today’s Turkish policy and the events that occurred 100 years ago,  the National Assembly's Press Service reports.
