One year on: Prosecutor's office still investigating attack on journalists (video)

On July 17, 2016, a group of armed men calling themselves Sasna Dzrer (the Daredevils of Sasun) stormed a police station in Yerevan, taking nine hostages. They demanded the release of opposition leader Jirair Sefilian, and resignation of President Serzh Sargsyan. Two policemen were killed during the two-week standoff between Sasna Dzrer and law enforcement in the Armenian capital. In the meantime, growing crowds of protesters joined the calls for the resignation of the president, holding demonstrations in Sari Tagh neighbourhood. The Committee to Protect Freedom of Expression reports that 27 journalists and cameramen were injured during the two-week demonstrations and violence in Erebuni district. Nineteen journalists were subjected to physical violence and eight were persecuted. Four people were sentenced to one year in prison, another four were fined in the amount of AMD 200.000-250.000. but there are no policemen among them.
