Garo Yeghnukian, a member of the Founding Parliament movement who has been custody for about a year, is disputing his ‘illegal detention’ at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). Earlier, he had petitioned the court to speed up the investigation of his case. On July 10, a note was received by the court saying the complaint would be handled as a priority case. Garo Yeghnukian is charged under Articles 218 and 219 of the Armenian Criminal Code for aiding the Sasna Dzrer group which seized a police station in Yerevan in July and took hostages. Earlier this month, a Yerevan appeals court rejected Yegnukian’s to have his case detached from the trial of fourteen members of the Sasna Dzrer group.
