Jirayr Sefilyan addresses people from prison (video)
The trial of Jirayr Sefilyan and others charged with fomenting public disorder and possession of illegal weapons continued in a Yerevan court on Friday. At the beginning of the hearing, Sefilyan’s attorney Ara Zakaryan announced that did not have the authority to express any opinion because Sefilyan had asked him not to participate in the hearing in his absence. He petitioned Judge Tatevik Grigoryan to lift the sanction and allow Sefilyan and others participate in the hearings again. The judge said the issue would be discussed later. Ara Zakaryan told the judge that he would heed the instructions of his client (Sefilyan) and left the courtroom. Nina Karapetyants, the attorney of co-defendant Nerses Poghosyan, followed suit, saying she could not do anything without Nerses. The judge has called a recess to make a decision on the behavior of attorneys. During today’s hearing, Syuzan Simonyan, Spokesperson for the Founding Parliament movement, read out a note by Jirayr Sefilyan. The opposition activist called on people to attend the trials of Sasna Dzrer group members in the Court of Avan and Nor Nork districts and support the defendants.
