The government can ensure GDP growth of around 5 percent without any effort, economic analyst Hayk Gevorgyan said on June 27. “We are speaking about growth of 7-8 percent. In 2012, we had 7,2% GDP growth but the government had done nothing for it. The reason was that there had been a sharp increase in private transfers and copper prices. Hayk Gevorgyan says there is a need for political will to reduce poverty and it will definitely decline if monopolies are eliminated. The specialist says food prices have gone down on the international market which leads to reduction of poverty rates. But in Armenia the prices remain much the same because of monopolies.
