The Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival (GAIFF) presented this year’s programs during a press conference in Yerevan. The 14th edition of the festival will be held from July 9-16 under the banner “The Crossroad of Cultures and Civilizations. More than 70 films will be presented in the non-competition sections - Yerevan Premieres, Retrospectives and Tributes. The organisers say they have planned many changes for next year's jubilee edition. Michael Stamboltsyan (GAIFF Programme Director) said Andrzej Wajda's last film Afterimage would be screened in the section “Tributes.” The great Polish master passed away last year at the age of 90. “We wanted to invite Wajda to Armenia for a long time. Two years ago we started negotiations with him. He agreed to come to Yerevan but doctors did not allow him to board the flight to Armenia. The prize is kept in Armenia. During the screening of his film, we shall give it to the Ambassador of Poland who will transfer the prize to Wajda’s family,” Mr Stamboltsyan said. As usual, the festival will introduce the audience to masterpieces of world cinema. This year the Golden Apricot received about 1100 film submissions from 96 countries. More than hundred films were included in the competition and non-competition programs.
