Sam Sevian seeks to become champion of America

Sam Sevian, US-born Armenian chess grandmaster, plays successfully in a chess championship in the United States where the participants are competing not only for medals, but also for a ticket to play the World Cup. After eight rounds, the 16-year-old GM has 6,5 scores and shares 2-8 places. Armenia’s next representative Grigor-Sevak Mkhitaryan (Brazil) also won his 8th-round game and earned 5,5 points. He needs to win his contenders in the last three rounds to win a ticket for the World Cup. Round 9 games will be played on June 1. Sam Sevian and Grigor-Sevak Mkhitaryan will face GM Emilio Córdova (Peru) and Leonardo Valdes (Costa Rica), respectively.
