100 films at Golden Apricot: “First I was confused, but my friends stood by me” (video)

“We should be surprised that irrespective of financial and economic difficulties, we are able to organize such a film festival,” says Harutyun Khachatryan, Director and Founder of Golden Apricot film festival, “First I was confused, but my good friends stood by me.” The 14th international Golden Apricot film festival this year will kick off on July 9 and will last until July 16. The festival received 1100 applications from 96 countries. More than 100 films are included in different programs; 8 films from Cannes film festival, as well as from Berlin and Venice film festivals. Harutyun Khachatryan didn’t tell who the special guests are. The organizers introduced the reputable jury. The competition of international feature films will be headed by film director Hugh Hudson. The opening movie is “Khaspush” silent film directed by Hamo Beknazaryan 90 years ago, which will be screened accompanied by the music of Vahagn Hayrapetyan especially written for this film. “Our silent films are high value,” says Harutyun Khachatryan, “Not every country can boast of such films.” The closing film is Joe Berlinger’s documentary film “Intent to destroy”, which tells about Armenian Genocide and denying policy of Turkey. New official poster of the film festival, geometric figure reminding of apricot, was also presented. According to the words of the Minister, the festival has become one of the attractions of Armenia, an expected event. Yet, it isn’t only film festival, but will play an important role in the development of Armenian film industry, will become a platform, where business ties will be established.
