In 1992 we inherited a Shushi, which has been devastated and torn to pieces, the mayor of Shushi, Artsvik  Sargsyan said in an interview with “Artsakhpress”, noting that over the past 25 years a lot of work has been done in this direction. Artsakh which has gone through severe trials of war, faced a problem to restore and give new breath to the fortress city. Speaking about the population of the city, the mayor noted that currently more than 5,000 people live in the city. It is gratifying that every year the growth in the number of population is being registered. "Many people want to settle in Shushi, but since 2008. There are some houses, that their owners do not live in the city.  If possible, these houses can be provided to the people who live in Shushi and need housing,” he added. "For last 4 years, roofs of the high-rise building have been generally repaired. It is also planned to build apartments, buildings, entrances, courtyards, and a new playground for children. With the state assistance, asphalting works are being performed in some parts of the city", explained A. Sargsyan and added that in the construction of new buildings only local materials are used, keeping the architectural look and the atmosphere of Shushi.
