Pedro Agramunt, president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has surprised the members of the PACE Bureau members and violated all preliminary agreements, Aravot daily reports. He had agreed with the political groups that he would meet the King of Spain and tender his resignation the next day. For Agramunt it was extremely important that till the end of the session, including presentation of the King, he remain in the office. PACE delegates expected Agramunt to make a statement on his pending resignation today, but Agramunt did not even attend the Bureau sitting which ended shortly before. PACE delegates say this is an unprecedented situation in the history of PACE. Bureau members are leaving the hall one after another. They seem to be embarrassed and did not want to talk to the media. They only said that the Bureau is looking for ways to limit Agramunt’s powers and start an impeachment process against him.
