During the hearing of an opposition appeal at the Constitutional Court which demands annulment of the official results of the April 2 parliamentary elections in Armenia, Armen Smbatyan, Secretary of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), said ‘the opposition is not satisfied with the fact that we did not have post-election developments in the country and they were called criminals.’ CEC Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan it was the first time in the history of the Constitutional Court when they had to deal with ‘an improperly formulated document.’ Then he added that they did not find the signature of Stepan Demirtchyan (Chairman of the People’s Party of Armenia-HZhK) in the document. “There was an unclear signature by an unknown person but we did not pay attention to it and accepted the complaint.” Commenting on the statement of Levon Zurabyan, a senior representative of the Congress-HZhK alliance, who said claimed that large-scale voter fraud at each election leaves most Armenians with a sense of déjà vu, Mr Mukuchyan said, “One will have the sense of déjà vu all his life if he does not move forward and lives with the past. I call on the CC to reject the appeal and uphold the decision of the CEC.” The court is expected to announce its decision today.
