Armenia’s Constitutional Court continues on Friday the hearing of on an opposition appeal disputing the official results of the April 2 parliamentary elections in the country. The Congress-HZhK alliance demands that the CC annul the results of the April 2 ballot. In his opening remarks at the hearing, Levon Zurabyan, Vice-Chairman of the Armenian National Congress (HAK), said the elections did not reflect the will of the people, therefore must be declared invalid. He stressed that the law enforcement agencies had shown strange tolerance towards large-scale vote-buying, even encouraged it by creating an atmosphere of impunity. With regard to Thursday’s question-and-answer session with the Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Tigran Mukuchyan, Levon Zurabyan said it had left a bad impression on him. “I know that the Constitutional Court will not make a fair decision because you are all here to protect and serve the interests of Serzh Sargsyan and his HHK. An entire system to reject justice has been created for that aim. All this is taking you to a dead end. Today we have people who are in fear and do not trust prospects. I know that the truth will win [here], but one day we will win," Mr Zurabyan said. His speech was welcomed with loud applause from the audience. “You are not watching a theatrical performance,” CC Chairman Gagik Harutyunyan said when Zurabyan ended his speech. Harutyunyan was calling Zurabyan for correctness throughout his speech. “I have nothing else to do here,” Zurabyan said before leaving the hall.
