The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) today voted to degrade Turkey’s status and reopen a monitoring process against the country in response to the authoritarian slide in the country. This is a serious political decision,” said Samvel Farmanyan, Head of the Armenian delegation to the Strasbourg-based structure. A total of 113 voted in favor, while 45 voted against the monitoring decision. “Before voting, Turkey announced that it would reconsider its position on membership to the European Union. Another round of conflict between Turkey and Europe is guaranteed now,” Farmanyan said stressing the lobbying efforts and undeniable role of Armen Rustamyan, another member of the Armenian delegation, in the PACE decision.
