The Unity of Georgian Armenians NGO will back the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) and its candidate for Yerevan Mayor [Taron Margaryan] in the upcoming municipal elections, its co-chairman Tachat Vardapetyan told reporters in Yerevan on April 25. “We always get the support of the party (HHK) and the majority of our members agreed to back the HHK in the upcoming elections,” he said. Tachat Vardapetyan also referred to the recent attempt to burn the car belonging to Samvel Manukyan, a lawmaker of the Georgian parliament. He said he had talked to his colleague [Samvel Manukyan] and learnt that he had not suffered serious damages. “I do not know how to call this phenomenon, it can be called vandalism. I do not understand why it should happen on the days when we commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide,” he said. At the same time, Mr Vardapetyan added that neither Samvel Manukyan, nor he linked the incident to their Armenian origins. “I do not rule out that this bastard is Armenian himself. Armenians make up 95percent of population and I do not think that it could have been done by a representative of other nationalities.”
