Armen Martirosyan: ORO alliance is N1 contender (video)
“Samvel Babayan is a fervent supporter of the ORO alliance [led by former Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyian, former Foreign Ministers Raffi Hovannisian and Vartan Oskanian], that is why the authorities decided to neutralize him,” a senior figure of the alliance said today. “Why didn’t the authorities attempt to neutralize the leaders of the bloc – Seyran Ohanyan or Raffi Hovannisian? The arrest of the candidates would make a lot of noise although I do not think that Babayan’s arrest would create less noise. Samvel Babayan is not an ordinary supporter. He has resources and people listen to him. They decided to arrest him considering his reputation,” said Armen Martirosyan. He claims that the bloc’s reputation is growing day by day and they [authorities] are attempting to stop their continuous development. “But this [arrest] cannot affect the future activities of the alliance. The authorities once again showed something which was obvious from the very beginning – the authorities consider the ORO alliance to be their N1 contender.” Armen Martirosyan does not rule out that the authorities might apply the same methods against other members of the alliance. “How can I rule out such a thing in a country which is considered an authoritarian state by international organizations? Nothing is excluded in authoritarian countries,” he said in conclusion.
