Atlético Madrid striker Fernando Torres was taken to hospital after suffering a head injury in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Deportivo La Coruña on March 2.
Torres, 33 was injured when he challenged for a ball in the air and collided with Depor substitute Alex Bergantiños as they both went to head the ball in the 85th minute of the league game at the Riazor. Torres was knocked over and hit the ground hard. Medics rushed onto the field to tend to Torres, who was taken off the pitch by stretcher and in a neck brace.
The Atletico Madrid players were shaken up by Torres’ injury. He lay unconscious. Some were unable to look, while others cried. He spent the night at hospital under observation.
The club said Torres was stable and conscious but will stay under observation before undergoing tests on Friday.
