“Maybe the soldier doesn’t smoke or prefers other cigarettes”: fuss about draft (video)

The draft law on providing money instead of cigarettes to the contractual soldiers has made a baseless fuss, thinks Minister of Defense Vigen Sargsyan. He today has reminded at the Government session that for years the Ministry hasn’t allocated cigarettes to the conscripts, and instead of that money has been allocated to them, and this draft law proposes to set the same principle for the contractual servicemen. “Providing a pack of cigarettes every day doesn’t correspond to our policy. It means that maybe the soldier doesn’t smoke or prefers other cigarettes,” said the Minister. According to his words, the draft aims at not encouraging smoking for those soldiers, who don’t smoke, or those, who don’t smoke that kind of cigarettes, be able to buy the one they prefer. “Yesterday this draft was described as a draft of depriving the soldiers of cigarettes or directing those sums to other places,” noted Vigen Sargsyan.
