The opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) and the People’s Party of Armenia (HZhK) will stage a joint rally on March 1 in Yerevan’s Liberty Square in commemoration of victims of 2008 post-election clashes. According to a press release of the HAK, the rally will be followed by a march to the location where the bloody unrest took place nine years ago. Ten people were killed and more than 100 others were injured on March 1-2, 2008 when security forces suppressed protests by supporters of HAK leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan who disputed the outcome of the presidential election which announced Serzh Sargsyan as leader of the country.
