Sari Tagh residents call for release of people detained after clashes with riot police in summer

Relatives of citizens, who were detained after clashes between riot police and supporters of Sasna Dzrer members in Yerevan’s Sari Tagh district last summer, call for the release of the detainees. Twenty-three opposition supporters were detained following the unrest. Ten of them continue to remain in prison on various charges. Today, residents of Sari Tagh district held a protest action outside the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan demanding immediate release of the detainees. They handed over a letter to Embassy staff members with their demand. Then, the group headed to the Embassies of France and Russia. Seventy-three people were injured and 23 detained in Yerevan after clashes between riot police and supporters of the Sasna Dzrer opposition group who remained barricaded inside a police station in Erebuni district for two weeks after they seized the compound on July 17. They demanded resignation of Serzh Sargsyan and freedom for their jailed reason Zhirayr Sefilyan. 112233
