On Monday, February 20, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) launched an observation mission to monitor the April 2 parliamentary elections in Armenia. Talking to journalists in Yerevan, Ambassador Peter Jesen, the head of the mission, said 14 experts from 13 countries are already working in Yerevan to organize proper observation of the April 2 vote. They will be deployed across the country and will report us the results of their monitoring. We expect that 250 short-term observers will join us before the elections,” Mr Jesen said. OSCE/ODIHR is deploying an Election Observation Mission (EOM) in Armenia for the 11th time. Ambassador Peter Jesen stressed that EOMs do not participate in elections. We are impartial and we shall monitor the elections on the basis of international standards and conduct of elections rules. We shall assess the election process and present our proposals,” he said.
