Surik Khachatryan, a former governor of Armenia’s southeastern Syunik marz, says he had no desire to run in the upcoming parliamentary elections. “It is not an end in itself,” Khachatryan told journalists on February 18. He was hurrying to participate in the 11th Congress of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union (EKM). The former governor of Syunik marz expects Armenians to hold free, fair and transparent elections. “Particularly in Syunik, elections have always been free and fair, you have all seen the results,” he said. Surik Khachatryan added that he does not intend to leave the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) he is affiliated with.
